In her free time Jamie enjoys playing volleyball, watching films, doing crosswords, and going to concerts.

Jamie loves working on an individual basis with students. She herself is an avid learner and loves to help others break down concepts to better understand them. Growing up as an older sister and frequent babysitter, Jamie has also mastered the art of patience with her students.

Jon B.

Johns Hopkins University (B.A. in International Studies)

Jon was born and raised in the mean streets of West Los Angeles, attending Brentwood School. Following that, he decided to give the east coast a try, moving to the slightly more rough-and-tumble environment of Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in International Studies. While there, he also lettered as a varsity athlete in Track and Field, led the school’s Club Tennis team, and sang with JHU’s premiere all-male A Capella group, the AllNighters. In between all that, he worked for the local Club Z! tutoring franchise, and also taught individual digital video tutoring sessions. It was the latter occupation that grew his interest in teaching into a passion for the experience.

Having surmounted them himself, Jon is intimately familiar with how to assist with the challenges to be overcome by top-level prep students in L.A. – from the balancing act of time management, to the gauntlet of standardized tests, and everything in between. He particularly appreciates the “A-Ha!” moment, when a student finally learns to complete a significant challenge independently. Jon currently works for the LA Tennis Open, the professional men’s tournament on the UCLA campus.
Jonny L.

Cornell University
(B.A. in Government)

Born and raised in Los Angeles, where he attended Harvard-Westlake High School, Jonny left the sun and surf for Cornell University and majored in government and international relations. At Cornell, Jonny was elected Editor in Chief of The Cornell Daily Sun, the oldest independent college newspaper in the country. Since graduating, he has gone on to pursue several web-based startups, recently moving from New York City back to Los Angeles. Jonny enjoys teaching all levels of English, writing, and history. In his spare time, Jonny plays all sports, especially tennis and surfing (his coordination still needs a lot of work), and enjoys freelance writing and starting new ventures.

Josh B.

Harvard University (B.A. in English and American Literature and Language, with honors)

Josh’s studies culminated in an original full-length play that he wrote for his senior thesis. Josh also wrote, acted, and served as President for the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, an experience that afforded him the opportunity to hang out with the likes of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and that’s right, Scarlett Johansson. Also as an undergrad, Josh worked for the Harvard Admissions Office, where he learned the ins and outs of the college application process firsthand. He has happily passed this knowledge along to a number of high school students and plans to continue doing so with Launch Education!

Julie F.

University of Pennsylvania (B.A. in English); University of Southern California (M.F.A. in Creative Writing)

Originally from the New York City suburbs, Julie graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Pennsylvania, where she played varsity lacrosse, club ice hockey and wrote for and hosted an entertainment news show on the campus television station. In her free time, she taught lacrosse to at-risk youth in West Philadelphia and consulted on college admission essays. She also worked for Kaplan Test Prep, authoring a fascinating guide to dental school and several articles on the 2005 SAT changes.

After a few years in New York post graduation, Julie moved to Los Angeles to pursue a Masters in Creative Writing at USC, where she also taught a writing and critical reasoning class to freshmen for two years. She is currently working on TV and sketch comedy scripts and enjoys hiking with her super mutt, hanging by the beach and rooting for the Giants. Julie fully believes that regardless of "intelligence," any student can succeed if given the confidence and motivation to do so.
Julia W.

Middlebury College (B.A. in English Literature with an emphasis in Creative Writing, magna cum laude and highest departmental honors. Minor in European History)

Julia hails from the Pacific Northwest, but has lived in Los Angeles since she was fifteen. At a very young age, she developed a passion for the dramatic arts, and spent her youth as a professional actress. While at Middlebury, she was employed by the college as a Peer Writing Tutor and an Academic Counselor for Excellence, helping students learn to write at a college level and teaching invaluable study skills, time management, and organization. She received a departmental prize for her scholastic endeavors and was a Rhodes Scholar finalist. Currently, she splits her time between writing, acting and missing Oxford. The one thing Julia misses about college life in general is her tutoring and helping people develop a skill. She believes anyone can become a good writer, and enjoys teaching them the fundamentals and details of good writing. But, sometimes, the most important thing to learn is organization. After all, how can you begin to write if you can't find your pen?
Kaity K.

She worked specifically with students struggling with reading comprehension, decoding, and word retrieval in the writing process. After graduate school, Kari started teaching full time. She spent her last two years teaching for K.I.P.P. (Knowledge is Power Program). Her 7th grade classroom was composed of students reading from the 2nd grade to 10th grade reading level.
